abbreviations ended with ";" don't work for me

Hi, 

I was having trouble setting up an abbreviation like

>  date;;={|{import time; x=time.asctime()}|}

I think a cause for this may be that I have a spanish keyboard... But this seems odd.

Then I used another character and it works fine. What could be the cause of this?

I don't know. I'm pretty sure there is nothing special about ';;' as far as the abbreviations code goes.

Since Eloi is also mentioning the use of a spanish keyboard in the report. - Is it possible, that it's a similar issue I had with abbreviations & the usage of a german keyboard?

Yes. Good idea. I had forgotten about #1563.

This page describes the Spanish keyboard layout based on QWERTY.  I have just reopened #1563 while I investigate.
