Dear all,

I would like to know how Lenstool operates if I provide a FITS pixel image as input. For example, can Lenstool process such a file in a way that the output is also a FITS file? What are the corresponding settings in the parameter file (an example file would be great!)? If Lenstool cannot output a FITS file, does someone know an elegant way of placing the arclets back onto a pixel map?
If somebody could point me to some documentation for that, that would be great, too.

Sincerely,
Dominik Rhiem

Hi Dominik,

What you are interested in is "pixel 1 " and "pixel 2" from the runmode section.

1) pixel 1 produces an image plane simulated image from an input source or image catalog
2) pixel 2 produces an image plane simulated image from a source plane image.

In both cases the output is a fits file (same format for both) and for 2) the input is also a fits file.

The relevant section in the manual is here:

I also attach a presentation about these features which was given at some Lenstool Users  workshops a few years ago. It is a bit old but you will see some examples in the screenshots. Some slides are treating the topic of source reconstruction which is a related matter.

There is also an example parameter file for "pixel 1" located in the example_draw_giant_arc directory in the lenstool distribution.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will be happy to help.

Best regards

Johan Richard
