Hi Leeds Hackspace team,
Hope you're well!
I’m Sean, a sports photojournalist based in Pudsey. Last season I spent a lot of time working pitchside at major football stadiums – including Wembley – where I upload photos live via FTP using stadium Wi-Fi, mobile data, or Ethernet if available. In heavily congested environments (like 80,000+ capacity matches), connectivity can be really unpredictable, so I started looking into how different services handle reliable comms.
That curiosity led me down a bit of a rabbit hole, and I’ve recently become really interested in mesh networking – not as a current solution for my workflow, but more as a hobby. I’ve started putting together a node and would love to connect with anyone locally who’s exploring similar things, whether for hobbyist use, off-grid setups, or something more experimental.
I’m also looking for access to a 3D printer to create enclosures for nodes – ideally something portable and weather-resistant. Would Leeds Hackspace be a place where I could either use a printer, or get some advice on designing and producing suitable cases?
Happy to pop down and chat, and I’m always up for sharing photojournalistic advice too!
Appreciate any help or signposting.
Best,
Sean
Hi Sean,
The Hackspace is definitely a place to chat about that, and we're good at 3D printing - best bet is to come along on a Tuesday open evening.
As for reliable connection, I could barely ever get it to work over ethernet, so good luck...
