Hi all -

I'm wondering if anyone has a clever way of tracking HSA expenses in
ledger. For those who don't know, an HSA is a type of account used for
"eligible" healthcare expenses in the US. You can pay the healthcare
expense out of pocket and then later reimburse yourself from the HSA.

2019-01-01 Foo
    assets:hsa    $ 100.00
    equity

2019-01-02 doctor
    expenses:health  $ 30.00
    cash

2019-01-03 second doctor
    expenses:health  $ 20.00
    cash

2019-01-03 pharmacy
; this one isn't eligible for HSA reimbursement
    expenses:health  $ 10.00
    cash

2019-01-04 myself
    cash  $ 20.00
    assets:hsa

So ideally somehow I'd know that there's still $30 of reimbursable
expenses leftover.

Let me know if something needs clearing up; I tried to keep the example
as brief as possible.

Thanks,
Alex

I track mined with a pair of accounts, one real and one virtual:

 2019/01/01 Insurer
    Income:Benefits   -$100.00
    Assets:HSA
    (Funds:HSA)   $100.00

 2019/02/01  Doctor
    Assets:Bank   -$50.00
    Expenses:Medical
    (Funds:HSA)    -$50.00

 2019/02/15  Insurer Reimbursement
    Assets:HSA   -$50.00
    Assets:Bank

The Funds:HSA shows the total amount still available for eligible expenses, and any difference between the two HSA accounts is an outstanding reimbursement.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ryan
