Dear Martin, I hope you are fine

I would like to ask you if it would be possible to make the following transformation using lasheight and/or las2las tools.

Source Coordinate System: WGS84/UTM 18N
Geodetic: WGS84
Units: Meters
Vertical: Ellipsoidal

Target Coordinate System: MAGNA CALI
Geodetic: MAGNA-SIRGAS
Units: Meters
Vertical: Orthometric GEOCOL 2004

For your reference:

MAGNA_Cali_Valle_del_Cauca_2009
WKID: 6249 Authority: EPSG

Projection: IGAC_Plano_Cartesiano
False_Easting: 1061900.18
False_Northing: 872364.63
Longitude_Of_Center: -76.5205625
Latitude_Of_Center: 3.441883333333334
Height: 1000.0
Linear Unit: Meter (1.0)

Geographic Coordinate System: GCS_MAGNA
Angular Unit: Degree (0.0174532925199433)
Prime Meridian: Greenwich (0.0)
Datum: D_MAGNA
  Spheroid: GRS_1980
    Semimajor Axis: 6378137.0
    Semiminor Axis: 6356752.314140356
    Inverse Flattening: 298.257222101

Also, I have the GEOCOL2004 geoid file using *.xyz format.

Hello Nelson,

According to a quick google search this "IGAC Plano Cartesiano" seems like a very rare projection that is only (?!?) used in Columbia.

Does anyone else know more about this one and how it is similar / different from other projections? Or even better ... is there available source code implementing this transformation?

Regards,

Martin

Hi Martin,

I think this projection "IGAC Plano Cartesiano" and the Geocol 2004 Geoid are used only in Colombia.

We have been trying to reproject data using private software. But it seems to have problems with the results of "LAS/LAZ files", especially with vertical transformation and adjustment.

Thanks, Nelson

Hi Martin,

I did some DEEP digging in the EPSG database and found this documentation on the Colombia Urban projection method:

The formulas seem to be fairly well documented, with examples. It also directly cites the EPSG Guidance Document 7-2, which I found at these links:
You can find the Colombia Urban projection in section 3.4.3 (page 95).

Hope that helps! It does look like a pretty obscure one, but the math looks pretty straight forward.
