Looks like poor seamanship resulted in the total loss of a J/24 and risk to 10 aboard.

I was there that day.

I have used that inlet many times on power boats, it is not an easy inlet to navigate.

The ocean was very rough that day with a big breeze and rips. 

 I can not for the life of me understand who in charge would allow a J24 to go out of Townsend Inlet under those conditions with ten people onboarded. AV Yacht Club nearly escaped a total tragedy.  Praise to AVBP. Good Job!!!
