Kubeflow Summit Is Back - 2022 Proposal

Hi all, 

It's an exciting time to be part of the Kubeflow project and its community. It’s been 2 years since the Kubeflow community had an event that focused on Kubeflow users, developers and contributors.  We're seeing new users, contributors, distributions and more participating, many of which have never met one another and are looking for ways to participate and be part of an active community.  

What better way to do that than come together at an event and hear user stories (and needs) as well as take the time to "sprint" and get some much needed project operational and administrative needs taken care of too. Given the above.... 

...Let's bring the Kubeflow Summit back!!  Who wants to help?  

Here's the link to the working proposal.  Please let me know if you or your organization is interested in helping plan the 2022 Kubeflow Summit. I'll send out a doodle poll to those who are interested and get the meetings started. 

What would be the purpose of the event? (Glad you asked!) 

The Kubeflow Summit 2022 event will bring together Kubeflow users, developers, contributors, data scientists, ML engineers, MLOps professionals and more who rely on Kubeflow as a product and its community  as a critical element to their MLOps workflow. 

How big of an event would this be?

We're aiming for a 2.5 day hybrid event with 200 to 250 people attending in-person and a virtual element for those who can't attend in-person. 

What dates are being suggested?  And, why?

We are looking at a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday pattern so no one will have to fly on a weekend to attend.  We also overlayed Open Source and other Industry events for September, October and Novembers to see what dates would not compete with any of those events and below are the dates we arrived at. 

Suggested dates:

• September 2022 - 27, 28, 29
• October 2022 - 18, 19, 20
• November 2022 - 8, 9, 10

Please take a moment to answer this one question poll which dates you would be more likely to attend. 

Requirements: 

Space to hold up to 250 people, with audio visual capabilities to record sessions (and live stream if possible), food and beverage options on site or short walking distance from venue space, space for sponsors

(More information on needs will be discussed at bi-weekly planning meetings)

Schedule

• Day 1 - Community Submitted talks
• Day 2  - Community Submitted talks until Lunch time and after lunch Kubeflow Community Developer, Contributor and Operational topics begin.
• Day 3 - Half Day -  Kubeflow Community Developer, Contributor and Operational topics

There is plenty of work to be done from the operational side of things to discuss as a community, and if you look at the Kubeflow Community Survey results there is a wealth of topics which need to be discussed and actioned. Not to mention, new user stories and needs. This will be a grassroots community lead event, so let's all join forces and bring the community together.

Hi all,

Thank you to all those who participated in the poll.  Planning for Kubeflow Summit to be October 18, 19, 20th. Looking to hold this in the California Bay Area.  Do we have participating companies who have facilitates that can accommodate 200-250 ppl with hotels and food and beverage options nearby that can donate the space for us to use.  If so, please let me know. I'll also be looking at Bay area Hotels, but that may increase the monetary need.  I'd rather use a contributing members facilities. 

I've already hear from a couple companies who are willing to contribute $15K -$20K if other organizations will do the same. Targeting $60K to fund this event. 

I'll schedule a planning meeting for next week.  Please let me know if you would like to attend, so I can make sure to include you on the invite.
