Whats the algorithm behind Folder History ?

KDE Help Center says «Both panels remember recently visited folders. Click on the Folder history button ("watch" symbol) ...»
But what exactly do the panels remember? And what do they forget ??
However hard I try, I can find no rhyme nor reason in the folder history list.
Sometimes it suddenly truncates; yet other times it seems to grow repetitively, and without bounds.
Sometimes I can count on Sync Panels to remember where I was; but other times Sync-or has forgotten what I had stowed away for Sync-ee.
It would help preserve my sanity if someone could explain the algorithm that generates Folder History ...
