Hi,

I've been using Krusader for quite some time and am very happy, but wanted to ask about some things which I do not understand:
1. How to launch shell script or for example .desktop file by click on the file (or Enter key press). As far as I can see it is not possible to launch any executable file?
2. When doing quick search by simply starting to type some work and when selection jumps on some item, if I press Enter key nothing happened, first I need to press Esc key and then Enter. Very annoying.
3. If I connect with sftp to some server like in my case Raspberry Pi, and if I press F4 to edit file. After saving changed file, file permissions on that file on my Rasberry Pi are somehow changed to the user which I used to login to sftp. This shouldn't happen, I don't want to change my file permissions.
4. Is it possible to put tabs on top, currently tabs are located on the bottom and they are also too big?

Any feedback would be welcome, I really love Krusader, keep up the good work.

Best regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,

1.  You should be able to run if it has exe permission. Please check
whether it's https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=381675.
2. Discover browsing by arrows (left and right, up and down). If you're
using v2.7, you can press right arrow to enter the dir. If you want to
run an executable, you have to press Esc first — this is by design.
3. This is probably because KDE editors (Kate part in the case) don't
edit files in place but they create a new file and then move it to the
editing file path. If you use KWrite or Kate directly, is this happening
or not?
4. Yes, check out Panel -> General -> Tabs in Settings.

Thanks,
Nikita.

Hi Nikita,

thank you for the fast reply. I am using Krusader on Kubuntu and version 2.6.0.

Here is my reply:
1. Yes I checked that bug page and all my shell files are executable also same for .desktop files. I have no problems with other file managers like Dolphin or Double commander for example.
2. I see, I don't have latest development version, actually don't know how to install it on Kubuntu 18.04 if you can give me a hint would be great. However, Esc in any case is a hassle, what is Enter used in Search don't understand? Total commander is also working with Enter without pressing Esc.
3. Will test it.
4. Tnx

Alan

Hi Alan,

1. Let's continue in the bug to ensure all info is at one place. It is really strange. Please try to compile a git version, instructions are here and check whether it's fixed already.
2. My mistake, Enter works in v2.7 as you expect. Probably, due to #1 you can't appreciate this or there was another bug in v2.6. For Kubuntu package you probably need some PPA - better ask on some Kubuntu/Ubuntu forum. You may need to wait for the package to appear in a PPA though. I heard that in Fedora the package was available within 5 days after release, and I know for sure it appeared in Gentoo in a few hours. Haven't heard about *buntu. If you find out, please let us know.

Thanks,
Nikita.

Hi Nikita,

I agree. To install latest Krusader on Kubuntu you need this ppa: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/experimental
I also added pinning on this ppa to prevent some other packages being updated, because this ppa is experimental, so I added this file /etc/apt/preferences.d/kubuntu-ppa-experimental

With this content:
Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-kubuntu-ppa-experimental
Pin-Priority: 400

Package: krusader
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-kubuntu-ppa-experimental
Pin-Priority: 500

Many thanks,
Alan

P.S.: Please enable Enter button when typing in search bar, selected file should be run or if it is folder then it should be opened. I don't see Enter currently functional (reserved) in search bar at all so don't see a problem implementing this.

Thank you,
Alan

Hi!

I've tried it using the git version of Krusader, under Ubuntu 18.04 and
Kubuntu 18.04, and:
After pressing Enter the file is executed, although later the search bar
is still seen (and the user has to press Esc, for example).

Thanks for dealing with this subject :-)

Hi, just tried with version 2.7 and Enter will not run file or open folder if I am in search mode.

Can you try under a new user? It might be related to some of your settings... I don't have other ideas so far since both Toni and I confirm it opens dirs or runs files.

Hi, just tried with other user and same thing.

This is how to reproduce it:
1. I went into root location (/)
2. Started to type "home"
3. Search bar is displayed in the bottom of panel
4. home folder become selected
5. Enter key pressed

If I press right arrow key (in 5th step), I will enter home folder. It would be great to have Enter also enter selected folder or execute file if file is the selected item instead of folder.

Regards,
Alan
