How does one request Krusader features?

I really like Krusader, but it does lack a few simple features that I miss so badly that their absence borders on bugs, in my opinion. The main ones are:
  • You can set Krusader to delete all files directly OR to send them to the trash (which takes a strangely long time) but this can only be done in the settings, not during operation. Other file managers have something like F8 (or Del) sends files to the trash while Shift-F8 (or Shift-Del) deletes it right away.
  • There is no "overwrite all older files" option when copying/moving
  • The media menu can't be set (as far as  I can see) to display only removable media, while the MountManager can
  • How to define which viewer opens, say, a PDF file? Now F3 opens Okular.
  • There doesn't seem to be an option to assign file associations, e.g. to make Krusader open a .EXE file with "wine {$FILE}"
  • How to search with alt-filename rather than filename (Norton Commander style)? Is there  a NC keybindings file? I haven't been able to find one.
I'm sure this is not the place to request features, but there doesn't seem to be a better one. There's a bug tracker but these are not bugs per sé, just missing (and in my opinion essential) features that could conceivably be implemented without much heavy lifting, if only the developers would be aware of the need for them.

Suggestions, anyone? Tnx!

Krusader just follows system-wide associations. Thus, you should use the corresponding System Settings module to change them. Alt+F2 -> type "file associations" -> make changes.

Some of these are already available--not sure about the others, as I've never had a need for them.

    But:

    > You can set Krusader to delete all files directly OR to send them to the trash
    > (which takes a strangely long time) but this can only be done in the settings, not during operation.

Right click > Delete will send the file to the trash. If you hold the shift key while clicking on Delete, however, it will delete the file permanently.

Note that this works on multiple files as well, of course. Anything selected will be either trashed or deleted, depending on whether you hold shift or not.

    > How to define which viewer opens, say, a PDF file? Now F3 opens Okular.
    > There doesn't seem to be an option to assign file associations, e.g. to make Krusader open a .EXE file with "wine {$FILE}"

These kind of go hand-in-hand, unless I'm missing something.

Right click on a PDF file, select Properties, then click on "File Type Options". In some cases you'll find a list of a bunch of apps in the "Application Preference Order" section, sometimes there will just be one.

If there is only one, hit the ADD button on the right side and pick the app you want to use to open that file type.

If there are multiple entries, check if the app you want is listed. If it's not, use ADD as above. If it is, select it, then click on the "Move Up" button until your app is at the top.

Whichever app is listed at the top in there is what Krusader will use as the default app to open that specific type of file.

    Hope this helps.

I'm running Krusader on Ubuntu, not Redhat Linux. Maybe that's part of the problem. I have set Ubuntu's document viewer (evince) to be the default application for PDF files, and indeed this opens PDF files everywhere except in Krusader via the F3 key.

I did manage to associate wine with .EXE files, though, so thank you for that! :-)

Aha! There it is. Thanks! Ideally that would be possible via the keyboard (as I believe would reflect Krusaders design philosophy) but for now it'll do. Tnx!

Got it. :-) So Krusader does NOT follow system-wide file associations, as opposed to what Yury wrote above. In all fairness to him, I'd expect Krusader to start with system-wide file associations and perhaps offer the option to override them.

But hey, we live and learn. :-) Tnx - this helps!!

Is it possible to assign a key binding to permanently delete a file? If so, how?

Oddly enough, the behavior of the Delete key is reversed compared to using the mouse.

Meaning its default behavior is to permanently delete. To send to trash, you'd have to use Ctrl-Del.

You can change key bindings by going into the Settings menu and clicking on "Configure Shortcuts..."
