Looking at various weather forecasts is the iceboater’s primary occupation.
I surmise nothing happening ice-wise before we get colder temps Monday, perhaps even Tuesday.
Pointe Claire/ Lac st Louis is receiving a ton of rain, so might be in play next week depending on amount of snow we get on Sunday.
Colchester forecast has not much snow.
Anything developing in Kingston area ? Elsewhere ?
Cheers,
André

lost of rane in Kingston area but we have tons of ice on Col By and Hay Bay.  I suspect it will still be there when it gets cold again

The warm temperatures, rain and high winds have completely melted the snow. The black ice is covered now with a snow ice ( grage 7-8), about 0.5-1.5" that is quickly becoming a slash since we are at the moment around 0, 1+ C. I walked around 300 -400m out and there is no drain holes, nor cracks, everything is quite uniform. Unfortunately there is no wind. They call for some this afternoon but I think the conditions will be a slush, spring like sailing.
The new forecast for Montreal is 10-15 cm over night, so not so good. I hope they are wrong. Usually they are when it comes to a good weather forecast;))))

So the inland sea at sandbar is grayed out ( snow ice) and firmed up at least a little according to reports this morning. Temp is close to 40 F now so surface will soften up. It should freeze tonight again and might be good tomorrow am but the forecast is warm in the daytime still. The surface is flat and if it's hard will be excellent sailing the next several days as long as it stays hard. I can't check it today but will try tomorrow.

Thanks Don,

As you can see, we also have great ice now, but tonight’s forecast calls for 10-15 cm snow. Colchester  forecast only 1 to 3 cm.
Ice quality northern Lake Champlain, see Hero’s Welcome webcam below.

Sand Bar again, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with warmer temps ?

I’m game, anyone else ?

Cheers,
André

We have reasonable Ice at Trenton (west end of Bay of Quinte).  Today it is very flat but wet.  ½ in of slush to ½ in of water over ice.  The forecast is for freezing rain over night, temp +1 to +2 and dropping to -1 to -2 around 7 am.  Below 0 till noon.  And there is wind in the forecast.  I am hoping for great conditions  tomorrow
This is a link to my Weather station on the South shore across from Trenton.    https://www.ecowitt.net/home/share?authorize=BN90Y1

Hello Peter and Jean-Claude.
We all love Sand Bar now however, my temperature forecast is showing it will only be above -18C from noon to sunset on Saturday. Note that it is not possible to sail on black ice at temperatures below-18C the runners just slide sideways because the ice is too hard. The ice at Sand Bar has texture so you should still be able to sail it at below -18C but the fun may be out of it at that temperature.

Sincerely,
Paul Andre

Thanks for your insights on sailing (steering) on very cold ice. Presently -25c in Dorval I think we have passed that threshold.
