Hi everyone,

Just came in from being out since really early this morning and am seeing all the back and forth over Instagram posting.

I think that all parties have their points of view, of course and it seems that the only way to resolve this is to take a beat and arrange for something that might work better.

Rebecca wanted the Terry Currier post reviewed and that seems fine as we seemed to be in agreement with our not yet voted on new guidelines for social media….which are in process as Dave takes feedback from board members and refines them.

Elizabeth reposted this with a new label that features the KNA colors but doesn’t say the same thing. This does seem a bit lot not respecting the process which calls for a quick review if there is any doubt about a reposting and , at the same time, she is asking us to trust her judgement in this regard. Her earlier email about feeling persecuted by Rebecca is not a good thing either.

SO…we have an organizational snafu that we are trying to work through and what I’m feeling is also a personal conflict between Rebecca and Elizabeth.

The first we will hopefully continue to clarify and present to the Board ( either by mail when Dave feels it’s ready) or at the latest... by our next meeting.

The second requires a more personal commitment on their part to agree to find a new path that will satisfy both of them and this may need an in person meeting between them where they can talk about this face to face. I know that Elizabeth is on vacation until 10/14 but I would encourage them to consider having a dialogue about this asap after that.

Meanwhile, perhaps Elizabeth should take a pause with Instaqram posts while they and KNA work to find an acceptable path for all? OR…if she wants to keep posting, be willing to have them vetted by KNA quickly before hand?

The world of social media is so very much not my bailiwick at all so I’m in the fog on most of this and never see any of our stuff whether on Facebook, Instagram, etc. Which means that I have to trust those KNA has empowered to do this with using good judgement and knowing what is and isn’t appropriate to assign our name to. I would truly hope that the new guidelines will be clear and specific enough to really help out with that going forward.

I’m not really sure what the correct path is here but I know that this is taking up an enormous amount of time and energy in all of our already overloaded lives and that’s not good but at the same time it’s quite important that we listen to all sides with respect

Other board members….please weigh in here as so far we’ve only heard back as a group from Elizabeth.Rebecca, Dave, Daniel L., Jim and myself. Your thoughts on this shared with the group would be surely appreciated.

Let’s pull together for the good of all of KNA!

Kindly,
Jay

Hi Jay and all,

Thanks for taking the time to summarize where things stand and for naming both the organizational and personal layers here. I agree that it’s important we find a path that both supports the excellent work Elizabeth has been doing on our social media presence and also gives clarity on boundaries so there isn’t confusion moving forward.

To me, the biggest priority is finalizing our social media guidelines so we all have something clear and agreed-upon to lean on. That way, questions about what is or isn’t appropriate don’t fall on individuals or turn into personal conflicts. Until those are finalized, it seems reasonable to have a simple review process in place for posts that might be sensitive or uncertain.

I also want to acknowledge how much work Elizabeth has put into building our social media presence — it’s made a big difference for KNA, and I think we all appreciate her efforts. At the same time, I support having a shared structure so that she (and anyone else posting in the future) doesn’t feel like they’re carrying all of the responsibility and judgment calls on their own.

I’m hopeful that once guidelines are approved, much of this tension will ease. In the meantime, I’m supportive of a pause or quick-review approach, whichever feels most workable to the group, and of encouraging a respectful conversation between Elizabeth and Rebecca when possible. Since navigating interpersonal conflict is part of my professional work, I’d be glad to help if that feels useful.

Most importantly, I’m deeply grateful for the contributions that both Elizabeth and Rebecca have made to KNA, and I want to be sure they each feel valued.

Thanks again for shepherding this, Jay.

Best,

Daniel

Hi Daniel and Jay,
Yes, let’s finalize the social media document. I’m in Kentucky through the 14th. I’ll try and do a Zoom call with Daniel and Rebecca. Please remember that our next community meeting is going live on Instagram. That was voted on in the last meeting. If you would like I can remove that post announcing it on Instagram. We won’t go live. I don’t want to draw attention to this issue.
Daniel thank you for offering your mediation services. I understand how busy you are. Please let me know some days and times that work for you. Please take into consideration that Kentucky is 3 hours ahead of Portland. When it’s 3pm in Portland, it’s 6pm in Kentucky.

Thank you,
Elizabeth Armstrong

I have written an email to both Elizabeth and Rebecca about scheduling a time for us to meet via Zoom.

My hope is that that meeting will give both of them space to listen to each other and find ways to move forward without upset.
