Hi All,
Resending the abstract (due to formatting issues in the previous mail) for Linux kernel Meetup Bangalore 26th April 2025.
Title : IBM watsonx.ai assisted scripts for linux kernel code maintenance.
Abstract : Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that allows machines to mimic human intelligence. IBM Granite.Code (wastonx.ai) offers developers a powerful AI coding companion in a single, lightweight Visual Studio Code extension. Granite.Code empowers developers by accelerating software development tasks with AI-powered capabilities, including context-aware code generation, explanation, documentation, translation, and unit test generation.
Today, there are multiple LLM Models out there being used by developers to automate tasks, generate code snippets, improve code quality, and enhance the overall development process leading to increased efficiency and productivity.
Proposal here talks about how we used IBM watsonx.ai with the Granite.Code model to generate scripts which are intended for Linux kernel code maintenance. Talk will explain how IBM wastonx.ai is used as an assist in generating scripts to identify unused macros ("dead macros") in the linux kernel code and identify the commit which removed the usage of the macro without removing the macro definition. There by providing opportunity to clean up these unused macros from linux kernel source aiding in reduced code maintenance. The talk will also cover other exploratory areas using watsonx.ai generated scripts for better kernel code maintenance.
Talk Preference : Lightning Talk.
About Authors:
Likhitha Korrapati is an Internal Support Engineer working at IBM. Her primary job is to screen Linux bugs.
Anjali K is currently working at IBM on observability tools for Linux.
Regards,
