MMM and update from GJ

Hey friends!

I have two important news updates for you today:

(1) March Mammal Madness is upon us!  The bracket drops later today (turns out it's hard to do science when government funding and support is gutted, so there is a slight delay in the bracket's roll-out...) and the wild card battle is scheduled to broadcast live over Bluesky on March 10.  Folks interested in filling out brackets again??

(2) I am not helping write MMM battles this year because we've had some recent excitement at home in GJ - our second kiddo was born early on January 31. Danica Joe arrived at 34 weeks and she has been in the NICU since then. Rich and I both have paid family leave and Julia is still in daycare, so we've been visiting DJ every day at the hospital (which is only a 10min drive from home).  Dani's making great progress (she was 5 lbs 5 oz at birth and she's already 6lbs 8oz) and she can come home once she proves she can take milk either from bottles or breastfeeding for most of her meals. We'll definitely share more info more broadly once Danica is home. ♥️

P.S.  I recently read Patrick Stewart's memoir and I'm currently (re-)reading Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, which are both nice distractions to .... everything.

So glad to hear she's doing well and gaining weight, despite that early arrival. I love that she is Danica, DJ and Dani all in one email. Lots of nicknames already for that little one. :-)

I always find MMM to be a fun distraction in March so I'm board with filling out a bracket. Glad to hear y'all have switched to Bluesky too.

Congrats on your new baby Patrice! Hope little DJ keeps eating lots and gaining weight and you, Eich, and Julia get to welcome her home soon. 

I’m definitely in for MMM even if I don’t follow the battles very closely.

I can run the scoring spreadsheet if people want to do this.  Copy the individual scoring template here and share your bracket with me (& make sure I can edit it so I can get the data I need into the contest manager sheet).

My son's 4th grade class is doing this this year - I finally convinced a teacher that it has educational value.

Looks like the wildcard round is march 10, should we get brackets before that or give the wildcard round as a free round again so we’re have a little more time?
