Matchpoints, NV vs Vul

You deal and hold:  J54 JT83 AKT98 A

1d - 1s - dbl - 2d
??

Partner's Dbl was Negative. RHO's 2d showed Limit Raise+ in spades.

- What call do you choose & why?
- Please rate other plausible calls that you didn't choose.

Asking for a partner who's new to KS.

If the opponents had been silent, and partner had responded 1 heart, then I would have raised to 2h.
I see no reason to change. Important to show a fit in a competitive auction.

This hand -- J54 JT83 AKT98 A -- might not be deemed an advertisement for the advantages of for KSU -- not so much on the competitive auction described below -- 1D-(1S)-X-(2D)-?? --, but on a somewhat different, non-competitive auction -- 1D-(P)-1S-(P)-??.

The commenter below suggests that with the given 3=4=5=1 hand he would've raised 1H to 2H in the non-competitive auction where responder bids 1H over opener's 1D. Reasonable enough, at least in my view. However, if the auction started 1D-(P)-1S-(P), I would not be a happy camper as opener.  Raising responder's 1S to 2S on J-empty-3rd seems a bit much, which would seem to leave rebidding the 5-card D suit as the default.

It may be heresy, but I would not be shocked if an occasional KS-er opened 1NT on this hand.

All comments welcome.

I would raise 1S to 2S on the hand you gave. Would be interested in what others think.

Rebidding the 5-card D suit is clearly the recommended rebid, per B10. Opening 1N is interesting, but with AKT98, lying seems unnecessary. Moving the D honors into the majors gives 1N merit. (AJT KJT8 98xxx A)
