Go get a job with the ATA and start fixing things from the inside using your experience

One of my patients is a FWT. He told of driver who had an accident and killed someone, maybe more than one.
He said the driver didn't speak English and had a CDL license, and according to him a Haz-mat license. Apparently these are really hard to come by. They require vetting for competence and security vetting.
Sounds like the gov't has dropped the ball here; but that ATA may have knocked it out of their hands.

We can all agree that poorly trained drivers driving poorly maintained trucks is a really bad idea. I'll go with G and ask BK to offer answers. Or perhaps BK can actually get to a  position to cause change.

By golly put me in charge of one of the Mega carriers and see what happens. Until then I have my circle of influence and my soap box.

Some of the states like NY CA and IL made it super easy to get CDLs and then to make things even worse, there were CDL mills where cheaters showed up, took the written test at the DMV while wearing a camera so someone could tell them the answers then they went to a guy who pencil whipped the driving test and juat like getting a CDL from a Cracker Jack box they were on the road.

Why are states incentivized to allow this cheating? There must be some insidious influence being thrown around by someone.
G and I will buy you a higher soap box. This just sounds fishy and shitty at the same time.

I'm  gonna guess that you can't actually support that claim.
But diversity doesn't have to include non-residents who don't speak English and can't actually qualify. There are plenty of women/Blacks/Browns/Native Americans/etc who could satisfy diversity issues.
You threw us a red herring here (straw man? I can never remember.), trying to blame DEI for something that has nothing to do with it.
The world, especially the US, has PLENTY of people of various backgrounds who are  imminently qualified to handle all kinds of jobs. Sometimes they need help getting in the door. THAT'S what DEI is about; not hiring unqualified people. The WHITE world can supply plenty of those. Just look at Trump's admin.

When you purposefully circumvent the rules about being proficient in English by making the CDL test available in many foreign languages, why do you think they did that?

Not DEI. DEI is about enabling legit applicants for whatever job is being discussed.
This is bad governance by whomever is doing it.
Get your shit together on this.
You're making good points. No need to mix it with bullshit. That stink always overpowers whatever was good.

Interesting article in USA Today about this issue. It supports everything you talk about
Except........at the very end it states that accident rates didn't change when rule enforcement was less strict. Hmm............
And while all this good stuff was being done, Trump killed mandatory speed limits for trucks. I understand why; truckers and the industry in general want trucks to go as fast as possible.
But slower speeds have been proven to lower accident rates and severity, as well as cutting fuel costs dramatically. So there's that.
The stats from when the national speed limit was 55 are clear and dramatic.
But we accept risk, and death, for the ability to drive faster. No  going back on this one

I agree it was bad bullshit but it was born from the woke Diversity bloodline. You have to be able to see that unless you are stupid or blind

As for slower speeds for trucks thats fine if you do that for cars too and enforce it; but, its safer to have everyone driving at the same speed than to have widely differnt speeds all traveling the same roads. Also lower speeds arent always safer depending on road, weather and traffic conditions. Out in Western Kansas in long smooth relatively flat stretches. 80 miles an hour is perfectly safe for competent drivers. Whats dangerous is one asshole doing 55 when the speed limit is 75.

^^ this is demonstrably true

The safest speed to drive at is the speed of traffic. Period. Going considerably faster OR slower than everyone else is dangerous.

But well......i can probably find something else to drive besides a Tesla....

Well, Elon does make an amazing car that drives itself. I can dust pretty much any ICE car from the line, though I have only launched three times and usually drive in chill mode.

1) True that best driving speed is the same as everyone else. But slower is still better.
2) True that Teslas can drive themselves. Just not sure WHERE. Been know to miss their target.
3) Didn't know that BK is a scion of the woke crowd. Coulda fooled me. Did fool me. What happened?
Guessing that Woke became unwoke; high on its own supply so to speak.

I know a guy who was one of the early Tesla owners. Says it's the best car he's ever owned, and he'll never own another brand.

Guess I'm just lamenting that crazy always seems to ride shotgun with genius......

I'm actually not much of a Dead fan.
I  only know about 3 of their songs; the ones you hear in the elevator.

Only got to see them once.....two shows at Riverport Ampitheater in St. Louis, July of 1994.

I remember buying a $5 grilled cheese off a guy that was the best thing i'd ever eaten. I remember it rained on us all day the second day, but the sun poked through as the band came on stage...so they opened with "Here Comes Sunshine". I remember dancing and smoking...and doing whippits by the campfire afterwards.

Less than a year later, Jerry was dead....

One of my better stoner stories is going to the Los Angeles  planetarium to see a laser light show. Great graphics set to all kind of great music. Much better with having smoked. I actually went several times, great date spot. Laserium was the show's name.

Get some gummies while you're at it. The LA show was called Laserium; but that was 50 years ago. I wonder if they'll show it here again soon.

Well apparently we all need to visit the Sphere in Vegas.....taken that concept to whole new heights. I've had friends attend who's minds have been blown. And yes, there was a Dead show......
