Duh; they already charge for park access. And since many visitors are foreign, presto, we help with out trade deficit.
But Trump wants to make the NP's less great. What will that do to incentivize people to visit?
And while we're on the stupid train, why don't we do that for, say, roads, highways, etc. Who paid for the interstate highway system that you used lavishly for all those years? And yes, I know that trucks pay taxes that go toward highway maintenance. But we don't really think that it covers the cost of the damage caused by large semis.
We could put toll roads everywhere on the highways. They're already here and there. Our own 69 Hwy in OP has a toll lane. Heck, the technology allows a license plate reader to automatically bill drivers. Put them everywhere. But then there's that whole "common good" thing lurking. We all benefit from the highway system. It's how our food gets to our stores. Heck, it's how EVERYTHING gets to us. So I'm willing to pay the gas taxes.
And of course there's that whole property tax thing that pays for schools. Me and my kids are WAY past school age. Why not charge those that actually use the schools?
You get the point (my assumption). We're in it together. What WTP choose to pay for is a constant debate. The National Parks are a unique asset in America. It's an idea that has transcended party politics for150 years. But then along comes Trump. The money he purports to save would be covered by not building one Trump class battleship. The Park Service could be funded for years by the money wasted in trashing Iran.
I'd rather up-fund the Park Service. I have my Senior access card; pays for access FOREVER. And I bet that if we put it to a VOTE, rather than have POTUS decide on his own, the P. S. would be up-funded easily. Also betting that the next POTUS will fix this. Hoping that Congress fixes it more permanently.
