"We’re fighting wars. We can’t take care of day care" -- DJT

It's like he's trying to lose the midterms. This ought to be front and center in every Dem's mid-term campaign ad.

It will be pushed aside by videos of the huge lines at airports. "Picture's worth a thousand words".
Also quotes about gas prices
Also quotes about high oil prices will "make people richer" Yeah, whho?
And the latest where he says that the Strait of Hormuz will "open up naturally".
And the one where he says that he might leave Iran without them opening up the SOH.
The possibilities  are endless; but yours get into the top 5 list.

Wars are the responsibility of the federal government, day care is not.

Be nice, even when you don't want to!

Maybe someone forgot the part of the USC that mentions "the common good".
I know that won't resonate; but it's still in there.
Read the post about Eisenhower and the MIC. See what a few billion dollars will buy. Then ask if the military needs every dollar that they demand.
For example, the 200 billion that Hegseth is asking for would pay for:
Free college for every American, or
1000 trade schools, or
Universal child care for every child, with workers paid $25/hr.
One billion would buy:
10 new rural hospitals
40 new schools
The $34 billion cost of the war thus far could house every homeless person in the US.

This puts the dollar cost into human terms. It's worth the conversation. Eisenhower thought so decades ago and said so.

The common good that which benefits everyone not that which takes from some and gives to others.

Be nice, even when you don't want to!

This is awesome.

Taking OUR money and spending millions of it a day on an unnecessary war: GOOD!
Taking OUR money and spending millions of it a day to help new moms afford daycare so they can be productive members of the workforce to support their growing families: BAD!

Can't make this stuff up.

Didn't say good or bad just what is and what isn't the responsibility of the federal government.

So now it is war? A month ago it wasn't, you said. Very interesting you don't appeal to the Constitution with this claim war and federal responsibility, BKK.

The military is the responsibility of the federal government, child care is not. Do you disagree?

So Brian, your definition of "common good" is something that benefits everybody. Does that included roads, bridges, dams, etc? An awful lot of people don't benefit by that stuff.
But G makes the salient point. Raising healthy kids benefits EVERYBODY. If you're in doubt, check out the countries that have declining numbers of children. China comes immediately to mind. Their population dynamics are taking them over a cliff. Europe is in the same boat, as are we.
So yeah, child care benefits the "common good".
OTOH, the military is a LARGE make-work project; basically welfare for millions. Every item they make is designed to be blown up or otherwise destroyed. No lasting infrastructure.
I do get the need for the military. But we might want to tone it down a bit. Diplomacy is WAY cheaper and longer lasting.
But Trump's diplomacy consists of threats, intimidation, etc. And at the same time he's asking for ANOTHER $500 billion bump in yearly military spending, along with the specific aim for no new taxes. That means a direct transfer of gov't program expenditure into the military. Guess where THAT comes from? EPA, Park Service, food stamps, early child education. You get the picture.
This is Project 25 stuff writ large. The true conservative Libertarian approach to gov't, a la the Koch's. Basically the gov't doesn't do anything except the military and a few very large infrastructure projects. All else is privatized.
Time to get rid of these clowns.
