I am curious what platform you're running ka9q-radio on. I have used Odroid XU4, OPi5, OPi5+, and my X86 Linux desktop

Two main configurations:

Airspy R2 on Raspberry Pi 4 running Raspberry Pi OS (Debian Linux), 20 MHz sample rate

RX888 MkII on Intel i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, Debian Linux, 64.8 MHz sample rate

I have three copies of the first configuration, one each for 2m, 125cm and 70cm monitoring and recording all the local NBFM ham channels. Been doing this since January 2021.

The Rx888 MKii is on a lowly untuned G5RV skimming WSPR, FT4 and FT8 on all HF bands. I also often listen manually. Been running this since I got my Rx888 last May or so. The RX888 is unmodified and has not failed. Yet.

I am one of the few (or perhaps the only one) running ka9q-radio with my SDRplay RSPdx (and similar SDRplay RSP devices): I don't have much of an antenna here being limited by the HOA.
My desktop is an i7 5th generation (soon to be replaced by an i5 13th generation), and my Raspberry Pi 4 died a couple of months ago, so I think I'll be getting one of the new Rspberry Pi 5's.

There are several Wsprdaemon sites, including KFS and KPH,  running this $260 Beelink with AMD Ryzen 5560U: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09SHSQ5CF
With a RX888 attached it can decode 15 bands of  WSPR, make 10 WWV/CHU IQ wav file recordings and support 8 bands of WebSDR while consuming about 20% of the CPU which stays below 60C while drawing less than 25 watts on average.
I specify that Beelink model because the BIOS has deeply buried options to enable automatic fan speed control and always on mode which are both required for reliable operation and best CPU performance.
It is not a server class device, but the Beelinks have been very stable if you install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS server version.  Don't install the desktop version or it may install updates which break your ethernet interface driver.  And de-snap your Ubuntu server, whatever the hardware.

Two main configurations:

Airspy R2 on Beelink Ryzen 7 running Mint Linux OS (Debian Linux), 20 MHz sample rate,  Discone antenna local use only
Beelink Ryzen 7 Mint Linux sharing delta loop with a antenna splitter 64.8 MHz sample rate running ka9q-web
RX888 MkII on Ryzen 7 Desktop running  Mint Linux, 64.8 MHz sample rate using wsprDaemon   The antenna is inverted delta loop--listed as KV0S on Rob's Grafana

I like having a setup contributing to Rob's network and other machine to experiment with so I can shut them down as needed.

FYI I was involved with the openHPSDR project for over 10 years  I still tend the website.

Hi all,

I use two different computers, old i5, one is a desktop Dell Optiplex with 8GB RAM and the other is a Lenovo ThinkCentre miniPC. The OS is the same Ubuntu desktop, Ubuntu 20.04.6

"It is not a server class device, but the Beelinks have been very stable if you install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS server version.  Don't install the desktop version or it may install updates which break your ethernet interface driver.  And de-snap your Ubuntu server, whatever the hardware."

I need a desktop interface to see the spectrograms I saved using rx2fits from Nathan Towne.

Unfortunately, after running fine on the ThinkCentre for a month, one RX-888 MK2 stopped saving samples for no reason. The only solution was a restart of the computer. At the same time, an update package was loaded. The miniPC is connected by the Ethernet interface and is in a relative quiet zone. After restart, I checked and everything runs OK. But, few hours later, the miniPC was not accessible anymore. I must wait 2 days for our technician to climb to the Observatory site and restart it again. I regain access but for a short time. While I was busy with other operations at the optical observatory I let the X2Go session open and it has been disconnected short time after the technician went out. No chance to regain control until he will climb again there. I was not aware of the breaking of the ethernet interface driver _after_ an update and at least 20 minutes _after_ it works after the restarting the computer.

What do you suggest to keep the system online whatever updates?

Thank you, 73
 Tavi

The one Beelink I have which runs desktop Ubuntu 22.04 lost its reliable internal ethernet connection after an update.
Until I can reinstall and de-snap Ubuntu, I have attached a USB ethernet dongle to the Beelink and use that interface.

Sounds like you may be having problems with one of the numerous "network managers" that keep appearing to "help" you with multiple network connections, even though you probably have only one.

I run stock Debian and have no problems like this.

Thanks for answers!

I disabled the wifi because i need just one local IP to be the one configured in the router for SSH remote access, I use X2Go and SFTP. I'm not aware how to "de-snap" the Ubuntu installation. I know snap is used to install apps but not knowing that it can be the culprit for lost connections.

I will reinstall the OS and use Debian, it is enough for running just the RX-888 MK2 with rx2fits, no need for fancy desktop. I hope it will be less issues. However, I use LXDE, other DE are too slow for running under X2Go.
73,
Tavi
