No doubt it's a simple setting that I've got wrong but, despite searching, I cannot find a solution to my issue - can anyone help me?

Whenever I do a manual poll by pressing the two-arrowed icon (to the right of the magnifying icon at the bottom of the screen) not only does the system retrieve the new messages I want to read BUT, also, legacy emails from years back - sort of making up the numbers to the "Display 100 messages" option I selected at some point. Can anyone kindly explain how I can retrieve just new emails? many thanks

Are you using POP3 or IMAP?
I always use IMAP and for me K9 only downloads as many mails as I instruct it to.

Kind regards,

Thanks for responding Gunter, appreciated. I've been using Pop3 successfully for many years, it was only when I changed handsets the problem arose and, I assume, it's a setting somewhere that I just can't identify!
