Hello,
i have created a new folder in which all sent messages (IMAP) are stored. Unfortunately all mails appear twice in K9.
How can I turn this off?
(In the browser or in Thunderbird it's OK, there is only a single mail in this folder)

Greetings, Bernie

I have got exactly the same problem with my Trash folder.

Whenever I sync it, all messages are doubled, but only within K-9.

Any solution?

Uncreate the local file in k9 unless you want duplicates.

I can't uncreate my Trash folder, because I need it!

Duplicates appear as soon as I sync it, e.g. when I want to copy a mail back to the folder it came from.

Well... I thought to be "alone" with this problem but I'm not!!

For me it started around summer... I do not remember if there was a K9 update at that time, honestly I was blaming my email provider (Aruba, Italy) but looks like it's something into K9...

I have tried changing settings for the folder without solving. And I have found that the setting "Folder poll class" isn't sticky: sometimes I find it back to "none"!

Currently my Trash folder settings are:

  • display class: 1st class
  • poll class: same as display
  • push class: same as sync class
  • notification class: same as push class
Bye,
Giangi

Duplication only takes place within K-9.

Not on the server.

Another bug is, whenever I empty my Trash folder directly on the server, all the emails remain in K-9's folder, even after sync of the folder!

I suggest delete the account in K9, then recreate it. IMAP wil create the directories it needs for you to be properly in sync. If you create your own directories, you are going to get duplicates.

But I never created the Trash folder by myself!

And I reinstalled K-9 whenever I got a new smartphone, but the problem persists.

K9 by default saves all Mails in the "sent" folder. All mail programs I know do. But in K9 I think you can turn this off in the account settings. Some mail providers additionally save all Mails in the "sent" folder.
Not that your mail provider is handling the trashbin in a nonstandard way, too...

On my five different IMAP accounts (two in Google's ecosystem, two private Courier-IMAP servers, and one vivaldi.net), leaving folders at their default settings, I don't experience any odd folder behaviors. Any odd behaviors I would look to the provider or the user having done something non-standard, not K9.

I never created or changed my Trash folder.

The problem occurs in all of my seven email accounts.

The duplication is not on the server, it is only within K-9.

When I deleted my entire Trash folder on the server, it is in fact empty.

But in K-9 all the emails are still there, even after sync.

I have to delete them within K-9 again.

This often causes K-9 to crash, when I delete those mails which are in fact not on the server.

I never created any folders inside K9, and I "regulary" do a "Recreate data (Last Resort!)" to clear the used space because it keeps growing even when messages with attachments are deleted...

As far as I know that option remove everything locally on the phone but keep the configuration so is, more or less, equivalent to delete and recreate the account.
