Hi everyone

In the fall Francesca Zammarano (from UNIS) and I were wishing students could look at quick how-to videos on how to use some of the tools in our spaces, possibly freeing up the teacher to help kids with ideas rather than basic skills. Here's what we dreamed up:

Anyone can register and post videos and MAQR (get it?) generates an easily-printable QR code. The index is searchable by title, tags you specify, school, and author. There's also a simple lesson plan that I used to have students generate the videos in it now.

MAQR doesn't store videos, it's really just a searchable front-end for youtube, dailymotion, and vimeo. As in: you create a video, upload it to youtube, then give the youtube URL to MAQR. The thought is that if other folks think this is a good idea and submit videos, we could end up with a useful place to find how-to videos made for makerspaces, grab their QR codes, and stick them on our tools.

If there's interest I'll add a star rating system so that the best-rated videos float to the top. Comments are most welcome.

Best
Josh

Josh,

This is awesome. I had started working on something very similar right before the holidays. Glad to see that you have something up and running.

I second that. These are incredible! Very nice job of creating a valuable resource while structuring the process as an engaging learning experience as well.

Dear All,

I am finally ready to have my kids create "how to" videos for this. It's actually going to be part of their "assessment" for each of their design experiences... Thanks for creating a repository for them.. let's build this library up! DIY has a special contest on "how to videos" happening right now. Very timely, here is link:
