Hi Wonderful Makers,

I’m working with a group of teachers this summer who will be designing units, and I’m looking for a great unit plan template to support them.

Does anyone have a template they love that helps plan a series of lessons incorporating makerspace elements, design thinking, or engineering—while also integrating core content areas?

Would love to see what’s worked well for you!

Thanks so much,

Thanks!
Stephanie

Ooh this sounds interesting. If anyone is sending along resources, can you share them with me as well? Thanks!

Hi there, at the risk of being self serving, last year I published a book through MAKE called Three Modes of Making. A lot of it is about integrating the makerspace and design with traditional content, as well as laying out a few course outlines along with documentation resources for activities. If that is helpful for you, I'd be happy to chat about what exactly you are thinking about. I'm not sure I have exactly what you are looking for in terms of a unit plan template, but the idea of the book is how to structure a course or a project by thinking about maker activities in three different modes; imitation, modification, and innovation, and the different skills that can be learned in those modes.

Hope this is helpful,
Matt Zigler

I am a high school math teacher who loves to dabble with making and creating; this last year I taught an elective called "Design Studio" and here is a basic description of units and an example assignment within each unit.
