Hi Everyone,

I've been working really hard on the development of a block-based Arduino programming tool, and wanted to share my progress.

Currently, it works just on the Uno, but I'm planning to add some other boards and also working on a version for the Raspberry Pi.

Also in the works are some classroom tools such as teacher class management, student progress journaling and sharing between partners.

Have a look and let me know what you think... http://iforge.genlrn.com

Trevor

This tool is awesome.
I'm currently teaching a Physical Computing Class for teachers and the scaffolding you provide with this tool and the ability to use block based approach while seeing the text based code in the adjacent window would have been so helpful.

What' the best way to stay current with your development  on this project especially your work towards a Raspberry Pi version.

Trevor, this looks really nice, a drag and drop Blockly implementation to code Arduino.  Great work.  Your videos are clear as well.

Thanks, Trevor. Nice and straight forward. Can't wait for the Pi version :)
Best,
Tim

Nicely done, Trevor! I love the clean, well-organized design and the ability to upload code directly to Arduino from the browser. And great built-in how-tos!

This might just be me, but my ultimate tool would also allow to option to write directly in text mode. A lot of my MS students are comfortable with block-based coding, but on the verge of moving to text-based. I know flipping back and forth in the same program would probably be too difficult, but just having one IDE we could use that does both would be awesome! As it stands, I will probably introduce students to your tool, then let some of them "graduate" to the native IDE for text-based work.

Can we expect this tool to remain free for the foreseeable future?

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the kind words.  I have heard that feedback from others and will probably produce a version that let's you type syntactical code.

At some point, i plan to add some additional features as part of a subscription plan.

But the current version will continue to exist for free.

There's a great demo from Brian Harvey and Jens that shows a slider that moves a given program from fully block-based to full text, with several stops in between.

If memory serves it's from GP rather than Snap, but the argument is compelling nonetheless.
