Notebook 5.5 RC1

I've just uploaded a release candidate of notebook 5.5 to PyPI.

While there's no headline new feature in this release, there are quite a lot of smaller changes, and there's a good chance we've unwittingly broken something. So if you've been looking for ways to contribute to Jupyter, here's an easy way to get started! We'd like as many of you as possible to install the release candidate and try working with it.

To install the new version:

   pip install --upgrade --pre notebook

Please report bugs at https://github.com/jupyter/notebook - and if you feel like trying to fix bugs as well, go for it.

You can find more about what's new in the changelog - I've tried to organise the entries so they're easier to scan through:

Has there been anything that changed that might be leaking file descriptors?

I'm not sure - how do you see that file descriptors are leaking? Do you have any clues where they might be leaking from?

Is it possible you started to see this following an upgrade of pyzmq/tornado? AIUI, Min has switched over from a custom poller that needs to be installed in the event loop to using the edge-triggered fds to integrate with any any event loop. Maybe something we're doing with that means those fds aren't being cleaned up?
