Hi mailing list,

Our team in the past has converted a React based app into a jupyterlab extension and added to the palette. But due to a few reasons, we want to know if it is possible that we can:

  • Make a customized icon in Launcher, when click the icon redirect user to our webapp outside the jupyterlab. This way we don't need to convert the webapp into a jupyterlab plugin, which can be non-trivia and hard to deploy sometime.
  • Alternatively, if the aforementioned Launcher icon is not possible, we were wondering if we can add our extension to Launcher page to gain more visibility. Currently, user have to navigate to the palette icon in the sidebar and search our extension name to be able to open that plugin.
I haven't found any examples online so far. Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated!

Thank you!

Best,
Chen

Hi Chen!

This is indeed possible. If you add ILauncher as a dependency for your plugin, you can use that to add a command to the launcher:

You can pass in a url to an icon for your app, and that icon will appear in the launcher.
