Hi all,

On behalf of the team, I'm delighted to announce the release of IPython 5.0 today!

As we continue building the broader architecture and tools of Project Jupyter, the IPython kernel and shell remain for many python users the "beating heart" of Jupyter and the environment they actually use to interact with their code every day.

So we continue making the system better, and especially for terminal users this release brings some very nice enhancements.

As usual you can try this new release with:

pip install ipython --upgrade

or you can wait a bit for it to propagate to the repositories of your favorite packaging system/distribution.

You can find more details at the blog:

Many thanks to everyone who made this release possible, and in particular to Thomas and Matthias who carried the lion's share of the effort to bring us a lot of very nice new features, as well as to Jonathan Slenders, the author of prompt_toolkit that makes much of the new shiny possible.

Cheers,

f

Thanks all !

Feel free to report any bugs you have, and make pull requests ! In
hopefully a month-ish, we can release 5.1, and then start working on
6.0 !

I'm pretty excited about the upgrade from readline to prompt_toolkit:
