Were other people already aware of this? It's pretty cool:

Hi Thomas,

Yes I've seen it, IIRC when it was announced we even though as to
whether we could use metrics to fed this a list of "Most seen
notebooks". But we had concern about leaking "Secret" notebook.
But it's nice to see it moving Forward.

Cheers,

Could you extend about the "Secret" concern?

I was thinking in a simple flask DB backed site with notebooks submitted by users and enabling comments, rates, notebook language (markdown cells, english, spanish, french,...), notebook programming language/s, etc,... It is in my 'Maybe/Someday' list. But I would like to know the concerns in order to avoid potential privacy/confidentiality issues.

Thanks.

Guessing a bit, but I think that Matthias is referring to 'secret URLs', where you hide a document simply by putting it at a long, hard to guess URL, and then only sharing that URL with the people you want to see it. It occurred to us at some point that people could share such notebooks using nbviewer, and that if we ever exposed a list of 'recently viewed notebooks' there, it would reveal the secret URLs to anyone.

I don't think it should be a problem for a service built from the beginning as a sharing site, like you're proposing.

I have talked with these folks and seen this. The main difference is
that users must upload notebooks, rather than simply renering
notebooks from URLs/github as nbviewer does.
