There is a new version of yarn, 1.7.0, which should address this, but it's not yet bundled with a jupyterlab release.
You may want to try `conda install nodejs` so that there is less chance of a conflict... You'll probably get a node 8 from `defaults` or 9 from `conda-forge`.
Sorry this is frustrating... I really hope we can figure out a node-less solution for end users soon!
