Weekly news by organization

Project management (Jamie)

Last week

  • Distributed notes from Duke brown bag
  • Participated in Bloomberg’s gender-inclusive evaluation of JupyterLab
    organized by Jason
  • Helped move the declarative widgets project to the jupyter-widgets org

This week

Notebook (Grant, Thomas)

Services - kernel gateway, docker-stacks (Min, can’t make it today)

  • JupyterLab 0.17 has been added to the docker stacks
  • @rolweber contributed code to kernel gateway to support token auth in the
URL query field in addition to the Authorization header. We’ll continue to
unify this code with the equivalent that got added to notebook 4.x over
    time. Thanks @rolweber!

Dashboard and related extensions (Pete, can’t make it today)

  • Pending notebook 5.0 release to cut releases of dashboards,
    dashboards_bundlers, and content management projects.
  • The community is asking for an update on where the dashboards projects and
dashboarding in general is headed in the Jupyter community. I started
    https://github.com/jupyter-incubator/dashboards_server/issues/319 to gather
my thoughts on where the classic notebook dashboard projects stand and to
start a discussion of where to head next.

JupyterLab (Steve, Darian, Chris)

  • Finished up the Big Split, 50+ 0.1.x releases are available on npm, and the
0.18 release is available on PyPI and conda-forge. Cleaned up the
development workflow on JupyterLab itself. (Steve)
  • Working on the handling of dependency conflicts with lab extensions -
avoiding them where possible, and rejecting an extension if needed.
    https://github.com/jupyterlab/jupyterlab/pull/1973
  • Released phosphor 1.0 (Chris)
  • Updated completer adding some behavior tweaks and enhancements, added
    restoration for cell tools (Darian)
  • Working on multiple file browser support
  • Had a gender-inclusivity walkthrough using the
    gendermag materials with Margaret Burnett.

ipywidgets (Jason, Sylvain)(+ Brian, Cameron)

JupyterHub (Min, Carol)

  • Min is back from various trips, and picking up JupyterHub things. Specifically: OAuth and Proxy refactor.
  • Carol closed a bunch of issues for JupyterHub and will triage remaining repos this week.

New:

  • Craft 2017 Budapest, April 25-28. Giving a tutorial on ipywidgets.
