does anybody know if the illustrations in the Luce translation are the originals of leon Benett of 1879. They are very close to German illustrations of Krupp Steel. the cannon is very, very similar to the Krupp cannon in the 1876 Philadelphia fair

I follow the advice of Faraday, who said: "The world may be full of consequences, but you must research as if there are no consequences."

and that of Edison, who said that the significant advances of science come from finding the reason for all the consequences.

Quentin,

As memory serves, all the original Benett illustrations were included in that edition.

Art Evans, who was the editor of that edition should be able to confirm that.

Dear Quentin,

Verne definitely gave instructions to his artists regarding representations of real life. Please find attached the depiction of Verne as Aronnax in 20,000 Leagues plus also a possible representation of Verne as the King of Malecarlie in The Floating Island. I do have one cannon and fort illustration from the Floating Island which may be a representation of a real life example I will dig it out.

Apart from Aronnax and possibly the King of Malecarlie, are there any other possible representations of Verne in his own novels in the later style of Alfred Hitchcock and Stan Lee in their movies?

Best John
