Dear forum members, congratulations on Jules Verne's birthday!

It's very sad that his 'reading day' is no more. It was very nice to see and hear you all.

What is the reason for the cancellation of this event?

I wish you many interesting meetings with the books of our favorite writer and new interesting information about him!

Sincerely yours,

Valeria

Well, it is as easy as read Verne this days. I’m doing it. I’m reading the Spanish edition of Butcher’s bio, finally published, and the Grant translation to Spanish.

The Spanish groups are very active, even some newspapers made echo of it.

AFAIK, Margot, the person that used to enable the video stuff has serious health issues. :-(

Hi Valeria,

The Hispanic Jules Verne Society has promoted the celebration of a Verne Reading Day since 2019.

The first two years those days were celebrated and observed in many countries on a voluntary basis.

The idea is that people read and indeed read Verne. So it's up to people, institutions, to do it or not.
In 2021, maybe 2022 and 2023, I think the event was held online, due to the pandemic strike and also thanks to the kindness of Jean-Michel Margot who offered a personal Zoom account to make those meetings.
It has not been possible to do so for the past two years.

Anyway, our Society has promoted and created the official posters for the day so each one of you can read Verne by your own means, which reverts back to the original idea.

Hope this explanation helps.

Maybe next year we can gather online if someone is able to offer a connection for all of us to be connected 24 hours and get in and out as we please.

Best,
Ariel
