Heya all- new to the area but Dutch so accustomed to commuting exclusively by bike. With Nursing school construction and such, are there secure bike racks available for bike commuters near the SON? Also, when locking bike, do you carry your wheel in with you or leave on rack with various locks?

Thanks in advance-- Kelly

Hi Kelly! There is a protected/covered area to lock up bikes by the parking garage at Monument and Rutland (Just past the Kennedy Krieger Institute on the left - not sure the names of the other buildings). I leave my wheels (mine are bolted) and just use a small U-Lock and I've never had a problem!

Hi Kelly,

There are no locked bike cages that I am aware of. In my experience, I feel that the Wolfe St. hospital entrance is one of the safest places to lock up and it is very close to the SON. There are security guards and foot traffic in the area basically at all times. Some of the racks are covered by awnings to protect from rain etc. I usually use a U-lock to fasten my frame and one wheel but feel safe not locking the other wheel, even if I end up having to leave my bike overnight. Welcome to biking in Baltimore!
