General Counsel - Organizing Together 2020

Organizing Together 2020 is a coalition of organizations, organizers and activists working together to advance progressive issues and defeat President Trump. Organizing Together 2020 is a federal independent campaign that will build community based, volunteer driven, issue and electoral organizational capacity for the general election campaign. Organizing Together 2020 will organize early to build a robust organization ready to fully support a nominee for the general election. Organizing Together 2020 is an independent effort not affiliated with any candidate or political party committee. Organizing Together 2020 staff will be employed by 2020 Campaign Services, INC. 

Organizing Together 2020 is seeking a candidate for the General Counsel position to serve as the head of our in-house legal department and manage our legal workflow. The General Counsel will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and provide support to state and national based teams. This position will work closely with other members of our leadership team, representatives from our clients and be the key integration point to our outside counsel. 

Responsibilities

• Managing organization's legal matters and serving as primary legal point of contact
• Create and manage a process to integrate workflow with outside counsel team
• Lead development and management of company’s legal systems and processes
• Work with outside counsel to provide the company legal trainings, memos and advice
• Working with outside counsel to create draft agreements, such as employment and vendor agreements as well as leases, client contracts and data-share agreements
• Work with clients to help provide compliance support as it relates to their IRS and FEC reporting requirements

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from accredited law school and admitted to practice in at least 1 jurisdiction
• 3-5 years of professional work experience
• Knowledge of statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to businesses, employment and litigation
• Preferred experience with political and election law - especially as it applies to independent expenditures and candidate campaigns
• Ability to develop and articulate legal strategy and objectives
• Excellent judgment, analytical and communications skills
• Commitment to electing Democratic candidates and supporting progressive causes
• Strong values and ethics
