Communications (Comms2) is a new organization that will serve as the communications and
digital hub of Pennsylvania’s progressive infrastructure. It officially
launched in January 2020 and will become more public facing in the coming
months. Comms2 will write and produce content for
progressive organizations, coordinates communications with partner and allied
stakeholders, and monitors and develops strategies and tactics to best navigate
the ever-changing digital landscape. Comms2 was founded in 2020 with a mission to help shape the political
environment in Pennsylvania by centralizing institutional knowledge in a
dynamic communications organization. The organization will collaborate in
filling the needs of progressive partners’ campaigns throughout the
Commonwealth.
Position: Communications Hub Director
The Communications Hub Director is responsible for developing relationships with progressive communicators in Pennsylvania. Through their work hosting coordination meetings and facilitating messaging outreach and trainings, they will act as a liaison to progressive partners for Comms2. The Communications Hub Director works with partners on an ongoing basis to assess the needs of existing organizations, coordinate and facilitate information sharing and read-outs of best practices across communication platforms, and work with a wide variety of organizations to add capacity to their existing programs, finding ways to make strategic investments and provide insight.
The Communications Hub Director should execute coordination and trainings to build trust, add capacity, and grow organizational relationships for Comms2 to reflect the needs of Pennsylvania’s progressive infrastructure. Building trust with partners is key to organizational partnerships that allow the Communications Hub Director to successfully coordinate strategy across a wide variety of progressive organizations.
Responsibilities
● Work with progressive partners and key stakeholders to create and execute an overall communications plan for Pennsylvania’s progressive infrastructure, which would include traditional and digital communication channels.

Coordinate communications across
the progressive movement and meet the needs of progressive partners with
various capacities as it relates to the tactic of communications. This
individual should have experience facilitating conversations around messaging,
communications, and digital strategy.

Create trainings and facilitate
meetings for partners that are engaging enough for organizations to invest time
and resources into Comms2.
This includes working with organizations of various sizes and capacities to
meet them where they are to add value to existing progressive infrastructure
through Comms2.
● Track, follow, and disseminate important messaging documents, best communication practices, and help facilitate strategy around earned and paid media for partners and Comms2.
Qualifications
●
Demonstrated ability to lead a
team of progressive communicators with an extensive knowledge of communication
tactics.
●
Previous experience developing
messaging documents, writing talking points, and executing earned and paid
media. This individual will be responsible for understanding the needs of
progressive Pennsylvania communicators.
●
Previous experience leading trainings
for best practices around the tactic of communications.
● An understanding of rapid response social media strategy and the ability to find opportunities to leverage breaking news and the 24-hour news cycle to the benefit of Pennsylvania’s progressive infrastructure, and work with partners to shape the political environment.
Previous Experience and Job Expectations
●
A minimum of 4 to 7 years
demonstrating continued success working within the progressive community
coordinating communication strategy for a progressive organization.
● Direct experience facilitating conversations to produce shared knowledge. Leading and developing communications trainings to build skill sets and disseminate best practices.
●
Commitment to inclusive
leadership, including working within diverse coalitions to achieve programmatic
goals. Relationship-driven with a focus on organizational and individual
relationships.
● Working for progressive organizations in previous capacities, including but not limited to organizing, field, communications, political, or progressive policy.
Salary is commensurate with experience. The range is between $70,000 - $90,000 and benefits include health care coverage.
