New York City Borough President Communications Director


Competitive New York City Borough President race seeks experienced media relations professional to serve as Communications Director (this is not an entry-level role). We're open to a wide variety of experiences and work backgrounds. The ideal candidate will possess a mix of some of the following qualifications (none are requirements, but provided to give a sense of the workload and responsibilities of the position):


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: You have served in a media relations role (e.g. Press Secretary, Communications Director, etc.) for 2-3 election cycles, or have 2-4 years of experience pitching stories and working with reporters

  • Media relations: You know the difference between a good pitch and a bad pitch, and are ready to have your main work product be creating new reporter relationships and using existing ones to push the message of the campaign and place stories in news outlets

  • Existing press relationships: You already have a network of reporter contacts and know whom to call to place particular stories, ideally in New York City outlets

  • Writing and messaging: You are a skilled and experienced writer, whether with press releases or op-eds, and know how to put together a message strategy and execute on it, including keeping staff and principals/candidates/elected officials on message


OTHER DETAILS

  • Position is located in New York City (position will be remote at start, will discuss this further with selected applicants). The campaign seeks to fill the position as soon as possible with duration through the end of June 2021.

  • Compensation for this position is commensurate with experience, with a base of $7,000 per month.
