SUMMARY:
NextGen Rising is proud to announce our Summer Fellowship program, the premier organizing training program for students and young people working to lead the youth wing of the Resistance to Donald Trump. NextGen Rising is seeking passionate and hardworking individuals to embark on a 10-week fellowship program, starting May 31 and ending August 9, that teaches young changemakers the art and science of community organizing, civic engagement, and electoral organizing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Over the summer, NextGen Rising Fellows will organize on and around campuses, and gain skills and experience to build a strong foundation for organizing, including:
- How to register new voters
- Committing voters to turn out in 2018
- Honing the hard ask
- Door-to-door and street canvassing
- Collecting stories of those most impacted in our communities
- Recruiting and managing teams of volunteers
NextGen Rising Fellows will spend 30 hours per week working with the NextGen Rising team and will be expected to complete the following:
- Implement a millennial voter registration and door to door canvass program
- Daily and weekly reporting and data entry using VAN
- Accomplishing daily and weekly goals
- Building relationships and skills of local volunteers
- Being a team player
- Attend daily and weekly calls + meetings with local and national organizing team
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Strong appetite for grassroots organizing and passionate about NextGen’s Issues
- Excellent organizational skills
- Driven by a strong work ethic
- Act with high integrity and character
- Sense of humor
- Can do attitude and willingness to try new things
- Previous campaign experience is plus
- Experience using voter databases like VAN is a plus
COMPENSATION:
Fellows are independent contractors to NextGen Rising and NextGen Rising offers a generous stipend which commensurates with the number of hours committed to the fellowship program. Our summer fellowships are full time, 10-week sessions.
