About Mary Miller

Mary has lived in Baltimore for over 30 years. It’s where she and her husband chose to put down roots and raised their children.

Mary grew up the second of six children in a close family and graduated from public high school. She studied government at Cornell and received a graduate degree in city & regional planning from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Mary spent 26 years working her way up at T. Rowe Price, running the Maryland Bond Fund for 10 years, where she became an expert in Baltimore’s finances and infrastructure needs. She was the first woman to serve on the company’s management committee.

In 2009, President Obama nominated Mary to a top job at the U.S. Treasury, where she became the first woman in history to serve as the Under Secretary for Domestic Finance. Mary led programs to help homeowners save their homes and small businesses get loans. She developed a retirement savings program for low income workers, and she worked with Detroit to help the city recover from bankruptcy.

After the Obama administration, Mary returned her focus to Baltimore. She spent the last 5 years working to increase financial resources available to minority and women led businesses and entrepreneurs to create jobs.

Mary has long been active with the Baltimore community. She attends St. Ignatius Loyola Church each Sunday. Overall, Mary supports more than 40 organizations in Baltimore that provide critical services to the hungry and homeless, returning citizens, teachers and students, arts and recreation.
