Communications Director for New York State Assembly Member, 149th Assembly District

 

 

Summary:

The New York State Assembly Member, 149th Assembly District is a Progressive Democrat seeking to hire staffer for his District Office and is seeking an individual to work in a highly collaborative work environment. Candidate must have an interest in working with the community, possess a passion for public policy and government, and a knowledge of media practices. The position will be located in Buffalo, NY.

Primary Duties:

  • ·         Manage the communication between the Assembly Member’s office and the community
  • ·         Write press releases, letters, newsletters, and draft speeches for the Member
  • ·         Develop and produce content for various platforms, including TV, print, and digital
  • ·         Choreograph press events, including scouting locations, setting up press conferences, and
  • ·         coordinating multiple participants
  • ·         Build relationships within the press community and the community-at-large
  • ·         Track media for the office

Additional Duties:

  • ·         Act as a community liaison to constituent groups and for ongoing community projects
  • ·         Represent Assembly Member at events and meetings
  • ·         Provide direct constituent services
  • ·         Work with other staffers to schedule events
  • ·         Provide intake for in-person constituent visits at district office
  • ·         General office duties

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • ·         Excellent writing and communication skills
  • ·         Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • ·         A minimum of two years in the field of media or public relations
  • ·         Previous governmental work desired
  • ·         Ability to manage and execute numerous projects simultaneously
  • ·         Possess an understanding of the media practices

 

This is a full-time position. Salary range is low 30s-low 40s depending on experience and full NYS benefits.
