Job Title: Communications Director

Reports to: Executive Director

 

Mission

The Nebraska Civic Engagement Table is a nonpartisan backbone organization whose mission is to strengthen the collective impact of and collaboration between nonprofit 501c3 community and advocacy organizations who serve underrepresented communities.

 

Goal

Our goal is to build an electorate that is representative of all Nebraskans - an electorate where everyone is able to participate in the democratic process and strengthen the impact of their voice in the policymaking decisions that affect their lives.

 

Job Summary

The Nebraska Civic Engagement Table (“Table”) seeks a new full-time Communications Director.  The primary responsibility of the Communications Director is to assist our members on the ground with communications/media strategy, coordination, and execution. Through effective collaboration with table members, the Communications Director is responsible for developing a coordinated communications strategy, with the goal of increasing participation in, and donor support of, the Table. The Communications Director will oversee the design and production of all online, print, and social media content for the table and table members as requested.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the production of all printed materials, such as newsletters, brochures, fliers, and event materials.
  • Serve as a resource for table members without full-time communications staff.
  • Manage the production of the Table’s email newsletters and alerts.
  • Look for creative opportunities to develop new and compelling communications content for the table and its members as needed.
  • Generate content and implement strategies for the growth of the Table’s social media presence.
  • Manage relationships with reporters, editors, columnists, and bloggers.
  • Organize the photography of events.
  • Fields and answers media requests for the Table and Table members as needed.
  • Provide communications trainings for Table members.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Nebraska nonprofits, social justice organizations, and political landscape.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Some familiarity with civic engagement tools and best practices.
  • Experience managing social media campaigns (i.e. Facebook, Twitter.)
  • Knowledge of distinction between 501c3, 501c4 and PAC organizations.
  • Ability to set goals, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Nebraska (including by car with a valid driver’s license) and some national travel.
  • Proficiency with Spanish preferred but not required.
