Communications Director, Red Horse Strategies (Brooklyn, NY)

Red Horse Strategies is a Brooklyn-based progressive political consulting firm, and we are seeking an experienced Director of Communications to work with our client base of Democratic candidates, labor, and progressive interest groups on developing and implementing earned media plans.

 

Candidates should be accustomed to working in a fast-paced, campaign-style environment, juggling multiple clients and messaging strategies. We thrive on a team-driven approach to our work and the nature of the role will require collaboration with clients, outside organizations, and non-communications staff.  We are seeking candidates who are willing to push themselves to create original and engaging messaging which will advance our campaign and organizational goals. 

 

This job requires campaign hours including nights and weekends.

 

The Role:

 

·      Develop long and short-term communications plans for multiple clients

·      Effectively distill complex policy ideas into campaign materials understood by the general public

·      Develop and maintain relationships with reporters and pitch stories

·      Draft press releases and related content for press and media use

·      Set up and oversee press events

·      Manage in-house communications staff

 

Skills and Experience: 

 

·      Experience in New York politics and with the New York press corps

·      Must have a clear, concise, and engaging writing style

·      Must be able to execute quality work under tight deadlines with little oversight

·      Must have strong project-management and time-management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

 

Position Type: Full-time
