Job Title: Organizing Manager
Reports to: Senior Organizing Manager
Location: Louisiana, South Carolina, Florida, or Washington, DC
Position Summary: This is a critical moment in the Gun Violence Prevention Movement and the Brady Campaign is hiring professional community organizers to help solve the crisis.
Ideal candidates are masters in building and maintaining relationships with community activists, elected officials & their staffs, and other key stakeholders. They are highly adaptable and can manage changing requests, demands, and timelines. They are not fazed by challenges and obstacles but instead work with the team to come up with the best possible high-quality solution. The successful applicant will be a creative thinker who has experience translating ideas into concrete work plans and actions. They welcome working in a multi-departmental group while reporting regularly to the Senior Organizing Manager and chief of the campaign. The position requires the proven ability to plan and execute on-the-ground actions like lobby-visits, protests, and press conferences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Provide focus and leadership on strategies and tactics that meaningfully engage target groups and activists in Brady’s campaigns
● Engage activists in targeted areas to push gun violence prevention measures like expanding Brady background checks to all gun sales
● Develop and implement campaigns that will expand participation of diverse communities, victims and survivors, students, and the faith community in gun violence prevention efforts
● Maintain an open door atmosphere where activists feel welcome and comfortable to call, email, ask questions, and provide feedback; be able to provide a sympathetic ear when working with victims and survivors of gun violence
● Working with the Communications department, assist in the generation of outreach and campaign materials and ensure web-based communications vehicles are up to date/accessible
● Using proven technology like Every Action and Mobile Commons, systematically build a cadre of activists who can be counted on to take action
● Work with the Brady policy team to generate policy positions in target states and implement engagement for those policy positions
● Interact with national organizations, elected officials, and other leaders
● Occasionally represent the organization at professional conferences and speaking engagements and with elected officials
QUALIFICATIONS
● At least 2-3 years experience in grassroots non-profit or political organizing
● Experience working with any of the following: student organizations, victims, diverse communities, the faith community is strongly desired
● Bachelor's degree or relevant practical experience
● Strong organizational and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
● Commitment to a data driven approach to solving gun violence including an understanding of the importance of accurate and detailed documentation of activist engagement
● Demonstrated ability to facilitate relationships, connect and work successfully with volunteers and other organizational units to achieve common objectives
● Tremendous organization, patience, and a sense of humor
● Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and to thrive in a fast-paced environment
● Excellent interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills
● Strong Microsoft office and Google Suite program skills
