Big Picture Responsibilities:

The Press Assistant serves as the first line of support for the communications department. The majority of responsibilities and activities support the crafting of message or monitoring media around the proposed focus of the day. This position requires flexible hours and eagerness to assist on any task.

Responsibilities:  Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Drafting press releases, crafting messages & media monitoring.
  • Planning and execution of events, and strategies to build community across the agency (Headquarter and the field).
  • Coordinate and promote communications events.
  • Provide assistance with projects, internal communications and engagement of team resources.
  • Compiling news roundups and news clips in the morning.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Communications Director. 

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.A. in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, Public Policy or related field.
  • 1 year of related experience.
  • Requires research skills and an understanding of how past research and polling fits well into a continuing narrative.
  • Best filled by someone who has strong interpersonal skills and wants to interact with a wide variety of people at the DNC in various departments.
  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Must be discreet.
  • Experience with online communications and research tools.
  • Mastery of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Experience in WordPress is a plus.
