Maine Votes is hiring regional organizers to help with ballot initiative strategies in the coming year. Field Organizers are responsible for recruiting, training and coordinating regional volunteer teams. The chosen candidates will be directly responsible for representing the organization and other allied organizations at community events and meetings, organizing local grassroots trainings, recruiting volunteers for signature gathering activities, and coordinating phone banks and canvasses.


Responsibilities include:

  • Direct signature collection for progressive causes;

  • Identifying, recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers teams;

  • Coordinating and participating in direct voter contact programs to motivate and mobilize voters in key regions;

  • Representing Maine Votes and allied organizations on a local level with community groups and candidate campaigns;

  • Detailed regular reporting of regional activities and program results,


Our ideal candidate for the position would have the following qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully relate to voters and volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds;

  • Ability to follow sometimes detailed strategies, solve problems creatively and think on your feet;

  • Must have sound judgment and strategic sense;

  • Must be able to work independently and in team settings;

  • Must be able to work long and irregular hours as needed;

  • A good sense of humor and a strong interest in and commitment to public education;

  • Basic computer literacy and data base skills;

  • Must have a car and driver's license;

  • One year of campaign experience or community organizing experience preferred;


Competitive salary. Positions available all across Maine. This is a temporary, project position expected to last until mid to late January with a possibility of continuing the work beyond January.
