More on the Professional Development Opportunities:

Each summer TALMA selects a professional development theme that is related to social justice leadership. We have not yet released the theme for this coming summer, but to give you an idea, last summer, our theme was social innovation.
TALMA Fellows got to meet with and hear from a number of social entrepreneurs from both within and outside of Israel.
A few examples of topics of seminars/speakers and "tours" included:
- The social entrepreneurship tour of Jerusalem - Fellows got to visit project sites around the city of initiatives in various states of development.
- Workshops on Creating Young Adult Social Justice Minded Communities.
- Launching change making ideas as a social entrepreneur through a think tank style workshop with PresenTense.
- Social Entrepreneurship in Israel by Hebrew University's expert on social innovation, Jonathan Mirvis.
- Value Based programming with Norman Atkins, CEO of UnCommon Schools and the Relay Graduate School of Education.
Sessions take place several afternoons a week and we look for participants who will make the most of these sessions and what they want to offer.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERTISE

- We are seeking applicants with a background and experience in education and with English fluency.
- Many of our alums are Teach For America Corps Members, Hebrew Charter School teachers, ESL teachers and teachers who work in low-income communities.
- A teaching degree or certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- We are open to applicants with alternative experience working with children; most specifically, applicants who could run 40-50 minute sessions focused in the arts, physical activity, music or other language barrier transcending activities.
- We prioritize applicants with previous travel to Israel.
- Our hope is that participants will be able to fully focus on the teaching and professional development we offer as opposed to being distracted by desires for tourism; That said, we do offer two 'free' weekends during which participants can explore, as well as fun opportunities to tour placement cities with activities such as food tours!
- We seek applicants who are invested in their personal and professional development and will take full advantage of all of our seminars and workshops, not only absorbing knowledge, but adding value to the conversation.
- Open minds, reflective personalities, team players and positive forward-thinking idealists who believe that all children in our world -regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or socio-economics - are deserving of an excellent education.
- We encourage all applicants to deeply contemplate WHY TALMA? Why a program in Israel?
- There are ESL teaching opportunities all around the world, but ours is in Israel very intentionally and we seek applicants who understand the relevance and benefit of an initiative in Israel.
