Grass Roots Organizer

 

Planned Parenthood of the Heartland (PPHeartland) is currently seeking a Grass Roots Organizer in Cedar Rapids, IA to join our Public Affairs department. The Grass Roots Organizer position is responsible for building a grassroots activist network and building coalitions with allied organizations and constituencies in Iowa.

 

Additional job duties include:


·         Recruiting, training and mobilizing volunteers to act on behalf of PPHeartland

·         Increase the number and skills of overall supporters in assigned region and constituencies

·         Identify and support patient advocates and storytellers to advance advocacy priorities

·         Plan and execute grassroots advocacy activities and events that support the advocacy plan for the state/region

·         Develop, coordinate and direct activities for identifying, educating, motivating and activating allied organizations and constituencies

·         Represent Planned Parenthood of the Heartland at events, internal and external task forces, coalitions, workgroups and committees as assigned


This position is 40 hours per week. Minimum of two evenings per week with engagement events, phone banking, etc. Some weekends should be expected.


Job qualifications:


·         Bachelor’s degree in a relate field (or 6 years of progressive related experience in lieu of degree)

·         One to three years’ experience in non-profit advocacy, organizing, political campaigns or volunteer management required

·         Professional or volunteer experience in reproductive justice/women’s rights preferred

·         Voter Activation Network (VAN) experience preferred

·         Legislative experience beneficial

·         Background check required for employment
