SUMMARY:
NextGen America is seeking a dynamic and creative political professional to join NextGen Rising, our youth organizing program. NG Rising engages young people in local and national fights to prevent climate disaster and promote prosperity for all Americans.
The Deputy National Organizing Directors (we are hiring for two) will fill regional roles providing regional field management for our youth vote team in seven target states. The DNODs will report to our National Organizing Director of the NextGen Rising youth vote program. This role must be willing to travel 50-75% of the time, but is based out of our NextGen America HQ in San Francisco.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Each DNOD will:
- Manage 3-4 NextGen Rising state youth directors day-to-day, including traveling to work hands on with Rising state staff. Immediately, this includes providing hands-on support to develop and execute a field plan for the Spring, Summer, and Fall of 2018; this includes creating processes for individual state voter registration laws, working to determine primary Get-Out-The-Vote plans, and other direct voter contact plans
- Act as a link between social media and online-organizing teams and the field, including peer-to-peer SMS, use of state-based social media accounts, and other online organizing tactics
- Serve as the regional hub for operations and logistics to develop region-wide protocols on efforts like lit and “swag” ordering, hiring, and approvals
- Help craft weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals for state field programs, including voter registration, canvass programs, and campus team-building metrics
- Be responsible for reporting progress to the National Organizing Director, including management of daily progress to goal and accomplishments; support states’ development of in-state best practices for systems and processes to run strong field programs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- 4+ years of field organizing and managing field staff, with at least 2 cycles managing field staff and/or senior state staff
- Very well organized; excellent written, verbal and presentation communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and outside organizations and be able to multi-task without sacrificing quality of work
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to foster a cooperative, team-oriented work environment
- Experience working with VAN or Votebuilder is required. Extensive experience with Google Drive and Google Sheets is strongly recommended. EveryAction experience a plus
BONUS POINTS:
- Experience with both issue and electoral organizing
- Experience organizing in communities of color and prior training in anti-oppression, equity and inclusion organizing
- Experience working on youth organizing programs
- Familiarity with online organizing tactics, including peer-to-peer text messaging and Facebook-based organizing
