A Maryland gubernatorial is seeking a full-time press secretary/Digital Manager for the 2018 cycle. This individual will have a variety of communications related responsibilities as listed below. Applicants with prior political, governmental, public relations, or advertising experience are encouraged to apply. This role requires long hours and availability on some nights and weekends with valuable opportunities to develop a wide professional network.
Responsibilities include:
· Working with senior staff to develop short and long-term communications strategies including production and distribution of content
· Writing and distributing press releases, opinion writings, and letters to the editor
· Managing a database of press and communications related contacts
· Writing speeches and talking points for elected official
· managing social media channels
· Producing content for mass email communication
· planning and pitching press events and responding to press inquiries
· Work with legislator as a traveling aide to legislative session or community events
Qualifications
· Outstanding written and oral communication skills
· Basic image and video editing skills
· Basic web design skills
· Understanding of popular social media platforms
· Bachelor’s Degree
· 1-3 years working in politics, government, public relations, advertising, or other similar fields
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
· Willingness to work many nights and weekends
· Applicant must be highly organized and have a serious attention to detail
· Applicant must be willing to embrace a high-volume work environment with multiple projects and strict deadlines
