Community Liaison

Incoming New York State Senator Sean Ryan seeks candidates for the position of Community Liaison. This position will be based in Buffalo and will be full-time. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to think creatively and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. This position reports to the Senator, Chief of Staff, and Director of Special Projects. Western New York ties are a plus.

Responsibilities

·         Monitor local issues in the media and report information to appropriate staff

·         Develop, plan, and attend opportunities for the member to meet with and engage with constituents in the district through events, stakeholder meetings, and community outreach

·         Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, elected officials, city and town agencies, and advocacy groups.

·         Represent the member at district meetings, including some night and weekend events, as well as virtual events.

·         Work with Constituent Affairs and Casework Manager to receive, manage, and answer constituent correspondence

Skills and Abilities

·         Ability to think strategically to advance priorities of the Senator.

·         Excellent writing and editing skills

·         A service-orientated attitude and strong organizational skills

·         Ability to self-motivate, think creatively, and problem solve

·         Works well under pressure, stress, tight deadlines and long hours

·         Strong multi-tasking capacity

·         Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others.

Qualifications

·         Previous experience in constituent services or customer relations a plus

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Political Science, Communications, Public Policy, or related field

Salary Range: $40,000 – $45,000, commensurate with experience.
