Electoral Campaign Manager
Democracy for America, a national progressive political action committee founded by Gov. Howard Dean with more than one million members nationwide, is looking for an Electoral Campaign Manager to help its growing Electoral team recruit, support, and train candidates and thousands of volunteers all over the country. Over the past decade, DFA has helped elect more than 831 leaders to higher office, raised more than $36 million in small grassroots donations, and trained thousands of organizers across 50 states.
The person who fills this role will have a twofold mission: build and train a base of volunteer leaders skilled in campaign tactics such as field organizing, media, and fundraising; and ensure that strong, progressive, people-powered candidates succeed at all levels of the ballot, so that we can transform state legislatures, city governments, congressional seats, and governorships into progressive strongholds and win in the fight against income inequality. The ideal candidate is positively progressive, driven by ambitious goals, solution-oriented in the face of challenges & few resources, and able to gracefully perform at a high level when the pressure is on.
Democracy for America is an equal opportunity employer that strongly values and looks to continue developing the diversity of our team. Women, persons of color, LGBT individuals, veterans, and members of other underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
Duties include:
Recruiting candidates for DFA’s endorsement, vetting and interviewing applicants, proposing priority tiers to determine which races we focus on, and why.
Training thousands of grassroots organizers, volunteer leaders, and campaign staffers, both on the ground and in scalable virtual trainings.
Developing curricula to support grassroots and campaign leaders in the five major realms of electoral work: field, finance, media, operations, political.
Setting field goals and seeing through deliverables for priority campaigns - supporting targeting, VAN management, voter ID and persuasion goals, and volunteer recruitment.
Leading grassroots fundraising for priority campaigns - working closely with digital and finance teams to raise funds and build a base of support.
Manage high-level relationships with key allies - labor, environmental, and community leaders - on the ground in top tier races.
Qualifications:
Progressive, optimistic, and strategic; obsessed with the art and science of developing leaders while winning campaigns.
Experience teaching skills to individuals and vast audiences alike.
Has crafted and executed campaign plans with many moving pieces to reach ambitious goals, ideally to hit a win number on an electoral campaign.
Extremely self-motivated, thrives in the fast-paced, ever-shifting landscape of electoral campaigning.
Previous data management and VAN experience ideal, but not required.
Comfortable with and excited about telecommuting and a medium-to-busy travel schedule, depending on the election season.
Salary and benefits are highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
